The thing we don’t think about when planning that beautiful yard and garden is all the stuff we’re going to need to have on hand. It accumulates amazingly fast and next thing you know, your car is parked outside because the garage is too full of lawn and garden supplies.
Now at my house, the car DOES NOT sleep outside. I think my husband might make me sleep outside if he had to choose! So as my garden is beginning to grow and more things are accumulating, I see that I am going to need a garden shed.
I can see it now, a play house for me! You know, shuttered windows with flower boxes, a little front porch, even a dutch door. Pure joy! A little path could lead down to the pond surrounded by…
Okay, get a grip, girl. There is no pond surrounded by trees. No path. Not even a muddy trail. And this is a just a garden shed, not my summer home. What I really need are some ideas for cheap garden sheds.
A shed needs to be put on a foundation that is level and has some kind of moisture proof barrier. The longest lasting and best choice is concrete. You will have to be able to pour a foundation of hire someone to do it for you. And the shed will also need to be anchored down, to keep wind from moving it or even blowing it away. You can buy anchors that attach to the shed and go into the ground or concrete.
Wood is a popular choice for sheds. The frames of wood sheds are made from lumber of different sizes. The lower the cost of the shed, the smaller the wood in the frame, which means some are stronger than others. The shed will need some type of ventilation, ordinary vents will do. The roof should have good roofing materials to prevent leaking and that is something worth investing a little more money on. The door should be made in a way that it won’t warp and all of hinges and latches should be rustproof. And even top-of the -line wood sheds will need painting.
Metal sheds have come a long way from the old rusty beat up tin thing that beautified yards across America back in the day. Again, there is a range of prices and it is possible to find a good cheap metal garden shed. Unless the look of rusty grunge is for you, get a one that is made from galvanized steel. Metal sheds have many interchangeable features to choose from. One thing to remember is that you might want an oversized door if you think you will ever want to store larger items.
Cheap plastic garden sheds that once cracked and faded in the sun are now made of a heavy PVC vinyl that has fade resistant coloring put in at the time of manufacturing. They are as durable and will last as long as a metal or wood shed. A vinyl garden shed will collect moisture easily and needs good ventilation. The customization options are more limited with a vinyl shed. If you need special windows or a custom door size, it would be better to choose a wood or metal garden shed.
I don’t know yet what kind of shed I will get. There is a much larger variety than I expected to find in both quality of materials and price. I do know I will be able to choose from the cheap garden sheds for sale and find something that will meet my needs and be attractive as well.
